Ph.D. Student, Italian Studies

Nicola’s main field of interest lies in the intersection between Italian, English, and American literatures. Over the years, he has developed a wide range of interests within literary criticism, chief among these are Trauma, Queer, Gender, Sexuality, Gothic, and Posthuman Studies, working closely on different periods such as the Middle Ages, the Renaissance, Romanticism, and Modernism.

He is currently working on the influence of Dante Alighieri in T. S. Eliot’s literary output from a gender and sexuality perspective, advocating for a queer reading of the American poet. Nicola received his B.A. and M.A. in Languages and Comparative Literatures at the University of Perugia (Italy), where he has dealt with Eliot’s texts, defending two theses, respectively entitled “The Ur-Waste Land: Trauma and Mental Illness in the Deleted parts of The Waste Land by T. S. Eliot,” and

“The Love Song of T. S. Eliot: Unearthing the Queer Allusive Path of The Waste Land.”

As member of the T. S. Eliot’s Society, he attended the 2022 T. S. Eliot’s International Summer School at The Institute of English Studies, School of Advanced Study, University of London, at the end of which he presented in a peer seminar a paper that then developed into his M.A. thesis.

Throughout his research, Nicola has been an intern at the University Language Center of the

University of Perugia, where he taught three translation courses (from English to Italian) on: T. S. Eliot; Ocean Vuong; and Frank O’Hara. Important for the advancement of his research has been the close analysis of Eliot’s manuscript of The Waste Land, and his subsequent translation course on it that allowed him to delve deeper into the text and to conduct a thorough analysis of Eliot’s allusions on a comparative level.
