Historical research has specific methodological requirements, which must be respected for the results achieved to be considered reliable, from the choice of the problem to be studied to the selection and treatment of sources. With respect to the treatment of research material, there are different study traditions, which sometimes mean research in different ways. This talk intends to present some methodological points for rigorous research, showing some case studies and proposing the comparison between different research and writing perspectives. Consequently, it will deal with the fundamentals of the research approach: the drafting of a bibliography, the reading of sources, the importance of archival research, and the relationship with consolidated scholarly traditions.
