Prof. Lawrence Venuti to speak at three Penn events!

The visit is co-sponsored by the Graduate Program in Comparative Literature and Literary Theory, the Center for Italian Studies, the Department of English, and the Department of Classical Studies.

Professor Lawrence Venuti, translator/translation theorist, Temple University, English Department, is scheduled for three events at Penn on Wednesday, October 23rd.

From 12 noon to 2:00 p.m., Professor Venuti will meet informally with students from Comparative Literature and other departments who would like to discuss his work as a translator and translation theorist, or chat about translation in general. We invite graduate and undergraduate students for this session to be held at the Meyerson Room in Van Pelt Library, second floor. Lunch will be provided. At 4:00 p.m., Professor Venuti will present a lecture "Traduttore Traditore: The Instrumentalism of Conventional Wisdom" at the Class of 55 Room in Van Pelt Library, second floor, west hallway.

At 6:30 p.m. Professors Venuti and Emily Wilson will be in public conversation about translation at the Penn Book Center, on Sansom and 34th Streets. Prof. Emily Wilson is Chair of Comparative Literature at Penn and author of a recent translation of the Odyssey (Norton, 2017), who was recently awarded a MacArthur Foundation "Genius" grant!
