The Italian Division and the Center for Italian Studies assist regularly matriculated Penn students in Italian Studies and other areas in pursuing plans for study in Italy through university-affiliated academic programs and internships, as well as for individual research projects.

Through the endowed Salvatori Research Fund, the Center is able to supports Penn students and faculty whose research investigates Italian culture and society. The Amici Prize supports undergraduate research in Italy. Finally, with the Vittorini Prizes, the Center offers awards for outstanding achievement in Italian course work at the University of Pennsylvania.

The Center supports activities hosted at Harrison College House to give undergraduates the opportunity to meet and speak Italian outside the classroom.

Food Studies at Penn

National and International Associations of Italian Studies and Other Sources of Materials for the Study of Italian Culture

AAIS - American Association for Italian Studies(link is external)

AATI - American Association of Teachers of Italian(link is external): The American Association of Teachers of Italian was founded in 1924 to promote the study of Italian language, literature, and culture in schools, colleges and universities in North America. It has approximately 1500 members worldwide. The Association publishes the quarterly journal, Italica, and a twice-yearly Newsletter. It sponsors seminars and workshops in the broad area of Italian studies and holds annual meetings, usually in conjunction with ACTFL but also in Italy. AATI is dedicated to excellence in teaching and research in all areas of Italian studies.

AISLLI - Associazione Internazionale per gli Studi di Lingua e Letteratura Italiana(link is external): As the only International Association of Italian Studies at the university level, AISLLI is a member of the International Federation for Modern Languages and Literature of the UNESCO, and is supported by scholars and politicians all over the world.

Centro Vittore Branca(link is external) della Fondazione Cini(link is external): Inaugurato nel giugno 2010 a Venezia, il Centro Internazionale di Studi della Civiltà Italiana intitolato a Vittore Branca(link is external), noto italianista e storico Segretario Generale della Fondazione Giorgio Cini, è un polo internazionale di studi umanistici. Il Centro accoglie senza limiti di età, accademici, studiosi, scrittori e artisti interessati a portare avanti un progetto di ricerca sulla civiltà italiana (e in special modo veneta), con un orientamento interdisciplinare, in una delle sue principali manifestazioni: le arti, la storia, la letteratura, la musica, il teatro.

Eks&Tra(link is external): Dal 2004 l’associazione collabora con il Dipartimento di Italianistica dell’Università di Bologna e dal 2005 con il Comune di Mantova, assessorato Politiche all’Immigrazione, Pari Opportunità e Cultura delle Differenze. Dal 2006 è iniziata la collaborazione con la Provincia di Bologna con il convegno “Scrivere la migrazione. Presentazione dei volumi vincitori del concorso Eks&Tra per scrittori migranti”. L’associazione Eks&Tra non si limita ad organizzare il concorso, ma si adopera per la diffusione della conoscenza dell’immigrazione nelle scuole attraverso gli scritti dei migranti ed incontri con gli autori. Dal 2000 viene organizzato il Forum internazionale sulla letteratura della migrazione, che rientra nel programma di formazione dei mediatori culturali e degli insegnanti.

Fondo Armando Gnisci(link is external): libri, riviste e carte d'autore di Letteratura Italiana della Migrazione, raccolte e donate alla iblioteca comunale di Lanuvio, nei Castelli romani, da Armando Gnisci dell'Università La Sapienza di Roma.

Globus et Locus(link is external): La missione di Globus et Locus è aiutare le classi dirigenti ad affrontare le sfide della glocalizzazione con una cultura politica nuova e un sistema di valori aggiornato alla realtà glocal. Il Centro Altreitalie (link is external)di Globus et Locus è la struttura, diretta da Maddalena Tirabassi, impegnata nello studio del fenomeno delle migrazioni italiane nel mondo. ICoN Italian Culture on the Net(link is external): a consortium of 18 Italian universities operating in agreement with the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to promote and disseminate the language and culture of Italy in the world through e-learning technology and educational initiatives.

INSMLI - Istituto Nazionale per lo Studio del Movimento di Liberazione in Italia(link is external):  The National Institute for the History of the Liberation Movement in Italy, with  the Italian Scientists and Scholars in North America Foundation (ISSNAF(link is external))(link is external), offers to University students, graduate  students, researchers and Faculty from the US and Canada the exceptional opportunity to access INSMLI’s outstanding collections of information, primary  sources, books and studies available in  its libraries  and archives (which contain both paper and photographic records), on the XXth century history of Italy.

ResearchItaly - La ricerca italiana a portata di click(link is external): ResearchItaly is the new web portal of the Italian Ministry of Education, University and Research (MIUR) established in order to map, support and promote high-quality Italian research, connecting different kinds of audience targeted by the four sections of the portal. ResearchItaly is a tool to promote the dialogue between users and actors of research. Its objective is to disseminate information, becoming the main communication channel on Italian research.
